Hi, I’m Tayanne. I use my background in Animal Welfare and passion for understanding behaviour to help you and your pets strengthen your bond through compassionate, science-led care.
My path to dog training started with a deep respect and passion for animals, alongside a genuine desire to understand how they see the world. I began my journey in the scientific community, first studying Biology and later earning an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare.
For over 7 years, I worked within the zoo industry, specializing in animal husbandry and welfare. Managing the daily care and behavioural needs of diverse, specialized species taught me patience, close observation, adaptation, and deep ethical responsibility. It gave me a profound understanding of how environment, choice, and stress impact an animal’s emotional well-being.
Transitioning into canine training is a step I have been planning and preparing for a long time. It felt like the perfect opportunity to work closely with people and make a positive, lasting impact on their lives and the lives of their companions.
While my academic background and zoo experience gave me a wonderful foundation in learning theory, I know that real-life dog training is ultimately about heart, connection, and practical coaching. The Welfare Way was born out of a desire to take everything I’ve learned about animal welfare and use it to create a safe space for dogs and their guardians. I am learning and growing alongside my business, and my promise to you is that I will always prioritize your dog’s comfort and emotional safety above all else.
At The Welfare Way, I believe that training should be an enjoyable experience that builds your dog’s confidence. My practice uses up-to-date, science-led training methods. This means rewarding desired behaviours and prioritizing your dog’s emotional well-being at all times. I refrain from using confrontation, fear, physical punishment, rough handling, bullying, intimidation, or coercion.
